About IHSI

The International Horizon Scanning Initiative (IHSI) Database is a world-leading pharmaceutical intelligence platform designed to provide a structured, transparent, and dynamic repository of emerging health technologies. As pharmaceutical advancements continue to shape global healthcare landscapes, access to comprehensive and accurate data becomes paramount for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and government agencies.
The IHSI Database was developed to bridge the gap between industry-driven pharmaceutical intelligence and the critical needs of public health stakeholders. By consolidating data from multiple national horizon scanning systems into a single, cohesive platform, IHSI ensures that decision-makers have real-time access to critical insights, enabling proactive healthcare planning and cost-effective policy formulation. It plays a pivotal role in mitigating information asymmetry, ensuring that payers, health technology assessment (HTA) bodies, and policymakers operate with a well-informed perspective in an increasingly complex pharmaceutical market.
Mission
Whereas many countries and organisations conduct independent horizon scanning activities, the costs, time, and resource allocations necessary to do so may prove prohibitive, even though the benefits may be far reaching. In this regard, the IHSI Joint Horizon Scanning Database was developed to address the issues countries face and specifically aims to:
Awareness of which new drugs will come to market within the next two to five years enables decision-makers to better understand upcoming innovations and their influence on currently available products. This insight has a direct impact on price negotiations and arrangements with the pharmaceutical industry.
IHSI employs innovative technologies to scan open source data globally. This data-driven approach enables negotiations to develop equitably, delivering lower costs ultimately to the most important end use, the patient.
IHSI database insight gives members the opportunity to pre-empt the impact of potentially disruptive innovation on the market by preparing and adapting national systems accordingly. IHSI will produce High Impact Reports to specifically address such market disruption scenarios.
